Primos Has Done It Again!

While there are many company names in the outdoor industry that are widely recognized, few if any, are more recognized than the name of Primos.  Will Primos and his famous outdoor company has been around a long time and has contributed to the success of many a hunter since their doors opened back in the 70’s.

Just as their reputation predicted, they had a wonderful booth at ATA full of new and upcoming products.  While we could spend the day writing about all of these new products and improvements to existing items, we are going to take a closer look at two of them.  The DPS and the Chick Magnet.

The DPS (Deer Positioning System) is a wonderful product that promises to change the way we will hunt next year.  While Primos has a great line of trail cameras (I utilized several of their Truth Cams this year) this is something different.  For a conventional trail camera to get a photo of a deer, the animal has to walk within the motion detection system of the camera.  This conventional system can give you excellent pictures of the game on your property but only if they walk within range.  What about all of the game that DOESN”T walk within range? Well, those are just missed.  Until now….

Nothing has to walk in front of the “DPS” to capture a photo.  The “DPS” will record the entire day’s activity in 5 to 10 second intervals.  You then can review the entire day’s worth of photos in under 3 minutes.  The “DPS” is great for seeing where deer are entering and exiting a food plot.  Know where your deer are going to be before your next hunt.  The included SOFTWARE allows you to save individual photos or e-mail short clips of photos to your friends.

With the DPS, now you can see patterns, see where deer or turkey are coming in or going out of an area, go where no man has gone before… at least until now.  I can see having several of these DPS systems on my hunting property to not only see the game I am trying to harvest, but to also see where they are coming from and when.  This will be a must have for any hunter.  Without a doubt.

The next item on the list was a favorite of our Pro Staff Director, Denny Chambers.  The Chick Magnet is a turkey box call that not only sounds awesome but is also extremely versatile as the paddles are interchangeable on the fly!  This twist on the traditional box call will blow you away.  The Chick Magnet™ has an interchangeable paddle that can quickly be changed to go from deep and raspy to high pitched and sweet.  The ultra strong magnet that attaches the paddles to the box is strong enough to allow you to cut, yelp, and purr.  The Raspy paddle is made from Purple Heart wood and the higher pitched, Sweet paddle is made from Maple wood.  The Chick Magnet’s™ box is carved out of African Padauk wood.  The different wood grains and densities come together to produce amazingly accurate and very dissimilar turkey pitches.

One of the things I loved about it was you could store the paddles in one pocket of your vest and the box in another.  No more rubberbands.  No more accidental noises emitting from your turkey vest as you are moving closer towards that big gobbler.  Overall, I was very impressed with this call and as a turkey hunter who has never favored box calls, I got my mind changed in a hurry!

The call includes:

1 Sweet Sounding Paddle
1 Raspy Sounding Paddle
Double Sided Box
Pouch for Extra Paddle

MSRP - $49.99  Available Spring or Summer 2011  Check www. primos.com for availability

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of the fine people at the Primos booth, especially Kim Creel (Marketing Communications & Event Manager) who spent a lot of time with us at ATA showing off all of their great products.
