Golfing at Pennyrile

Golfing at Pennyrile

If you like to play golf, you will enjoy the course at Pennyrile Resort. Just the layout of the course itself is worth renting a golf cart and riding around. I have played on nicer courses, but for the price, it’s one of the nicest! The staff was really nice and very informative.

The course is an 18 hole course but you can just play nine if you want. The course is plenty challengingfront 9 without being over whelming. The fair ways and greens were in great shape. Being in the middle of a forest though means don’t hit the ball too wide, you’ll be getting another ball out of your bag! As beautiful as the course is, it also has little room for error. But if I can shoot a decent score, it can’t be too tough.

The course is separated into 2 nine hole courses as usual. At first glance, you look around and wonder “where is hole 18? The first nine is fairly routine as far as golf courses go with water hazards and fairways that twist and turn. It gives you time to get your confidence up and loosen up your swing!

golfNow, my favorite part of the course, the second nine! If nothing else, rent a cart and ride the back nine. To get to hole number 10, you have to get off the beaten path. Actually I should say “ON” the beaten path. You leave the area of the club house and proceed to a dirt road scaling the side of a tallnumber 10 hill. You go 7/10th of a mile up this hill. You then see a concrete drive for you to go to and then all of the sudden, the trees open up to the 18th green and number 10 tee! The next nine holes are all on top of this hill. A couple of your drives must clear some pretty steep ravines and then come to an elevated green!

Dave and AndrewThe par 3’s are great! Don’t miss the green by much or you’ll have a tough time getting your par! All of the par 5’s are reachable, or at least they were for me and I am not a long drive hitter. Granted it’s not easy, but make able. The greens are nice and wide to give you plenty of room to work with and hold your ball well. They were in really good shape also. Not a bunch of pits and bald spots like I’ve seen on a lot of other courses.

Over all, it really is a fun course to play with holes where par is a good score and holes for potential birdies to help catch back up.

Staff Writer Anthony (ameshell) Meshell was born in Houston, Texas. Anthony married his High School Sweet Heart and Best Friend, Melody in June of 1989.  Anthony has two beautiful daughters, Macy and Katelyn.

As a young child, Anthony was raised on the water. Anthony’s family was always around water and the outdoors. He caught his first bass at the age of 5 years old and has been chasing them ever since. He also chases after Speckled Trout and Redfish now.

After graduating Pearland High School in 1987 (man he is getting old), he enlisted into the U.S. Navy.  He served during the Gulf War and was stationed in Mayport, FL.  Anthony is now a Police Officer for the City of Manvel, TX. Manvel is only a few miles from where he grew up.

The past few years have been a really great learning experience for Anthony and his family. Anthony has always had a passion for hunting, but had never really been able to pursue the passion until now. He hunts Deer, Dove, Squirrel and Hog. His older daughter, Macy, has also taken an interest in hunting and the outdoors. She is in FFA and they are raising Rabbits for show.  Anthony now has a deer lease to take the family hunting on and they enjoy every minute that they can there.

These days if Anthony is not fishing or hunting, he is thinking about fishing or hunting.
